What SMS Car Alarm To Get?

My SSV ute and now my current car have been protected by a car alarm which can respond to SMS commands like arm/disarm and send me messages if something sets it off. Perfect for me with my disabilities.

However, as I found out to my annoyance recently, the alarm has only 2G capabilities, so my Telstra SIM has stopped working. I can change to Optus or Vodaphone which could take me out towards the end of 2017 (Vodaphone) but in the meantime want to start looking for an alarm which works on 3G and hopefully even 4G.

I've Googled but can't find any. Given my lack of speech it's not easy to ring places so when I do (through the NRS) or email them I'd like to be more specific and talk about particular models if I can.

Does anybody know of a car alarm with 2 way SMS communication using the 4G, or at least 3G, network please?

    Thanks,
    Gary

I have also been looking at a tracker for the Grange. I was looking at one of these two.

I wish someone would make one with a WIFI mobile modem option. If I am paying for a 3G sim with data plan I would like to take advantage of the SIM with other devices.

Thanks guys. Most of those options are just trackers whereas I like my current alarm system which sends me an SMS if someone tries to break into it and lets me arm/disarm/check by SMS. From what I've heard from the manufacturer the current alarm uses something called M2M (machine to machine) capabilities which I therefore interpret as needing 2G.

M2M is, as you said machine 2 machine. Nothing to do with 2G.

Keep in mind that Telstra have also said they are looking at exiting 3G in 2020 so try and get something that can do 4G.

Be aware that there are differing 4G standards around the world, so you need to ensure that whatever you get works with Telstra, or Optus or Vodaphpone if that is your preference.

A bit of trivia:Christmas Island still has Telstra 2G, and the 4G installed by CiiA is actually North American and Aus hardware does not work there.

Ah, OK thanks! Just the way the reply was worded I gained that impression.

The alarm I have was originally designed by a guy who used to be on this forum but he left the company many years ago. I have been in contact with him but he can't help.

I have a mongoose MAP80G upgrade on my 2009 GTS. It included a tracker that ran on the 2G network. Like you I now have an issue ... I'm replacing mine with the VT43G. Not the cheapest I know but I was more than happy with the 2G version, features, reliability, lack of false alarms, ease of use etc

I was very happy with my Rhino RAM V2 until Telstra dropped 2G. In the ute I also had a TK103B GPS tracker costing around $A50 which looks not dissimilar to your VT43G.
