That's what I mean tho, the ones I get I don't think are hard coaded, dont even know what to look for to be honest. But lately the last couple I have had isn't hard coded subtitled it's downloaded as a separate file, so I add the titles from the Plex menu which is what has downloaded with the file and it won't play the file. Stick it on usb and itll play through the TV fine with the titles turned on and it only plays the foreign parts not all language which is what I want.
So either it doesn't like loaded the extra subtitle download or I need to find different files with it properly done

So I have changes to qbitorrent as has been suggested here, must say im not enjoying it but will perservere with it for a bit longer. My question is though, what are guys doing when they are downloading compressed files? are you manually unpacking them or have yuo set up rar/winzip to auto extract once the file has downloaded.

    Hey lads,

Yes, I could go a Google this stuff but you all seem to have a pretty good handle on Plex. I am currently using Windows 7 MCE for everything bar music (iTunes) and would like to upgrade my media PC to Win 10 while it's still free. I had a quick look at XBMC but the TV tuner setup for FTA was more of a pain than I'd expected.

My usage for me is recorded TV and watching downloaded content on the TV in the loungeroom. Is Plex for me? Is it easy enough to set up FTA recording?

Probably not as to my knowledge there aren't any Plugin's that will support what your after.

Re: Plex Media Server - How To Consume Your Media In Style

Is it worth setting up static IP addresses in my house for my media.
I've found with my DNS every time I reset my router I need to reset the DNS provider for the required IP address. And I don't know if it's related but having issues with plex sometimes, so hence my question is it worth setting it to static IPs?
If it is better does every single device need a static address to be set or do I set the router and things will automatically follow?

Anything that is offering a "service" I setup with a static IP address. So all servers, printers etc get one.
Consuming devices (laptops, iPad's, phones, etc) I leave as DHCP.

Have the DHCP pool from .10-.99 and then I have all of my static devices starting at .100
Anything under .10 is then reserved for switches/routers/gateways (the networky bits)

Are you talking about a DNS redirect service? If so. Thats on your ISP to give you a static IP and nothing to do with your LAN IP range which makes no difference static or not.

Yes I'm using getflix for my us netflix. Every time I reset my router I have to update my IP not overly an issue for me but for my Mrs and house guests. Also I just set up a vpn (I think so anyway) and I came back to the computer after resetting the router and I didn't have Internet, I had to disconnect the vpn, update my IP and then reconnect vpn. Not entirely sure if that was the correct way to do it but it worked.
I'm a bit of a noob at this stuff.

So I have I contact my isp for a static IP address so my getflix keeps the same IP even after I turn it on and off for resets?

The LAN IP is done through the router still if I change just my router and TVs etc then I can leave other stuff automatic IP? Is a Ethernet IP different for a wifi one?

You could get a static IP so getflix doesnt have to be updated. However alot of ISPs charge a fee for this. Why are you reseting your modem so often? If that's causing issues, fix that.

Ethernet or Wifi doesn't make a difference. Same ARP table in your router. Most of the time even after a router reset your LAN devices will keep the same local IP addresses but that's not your issue. Your issue is every time you reset your modem your ISP will give you a new WAN IP. There are ways to automate it with DDNS where your modem will broadcast it's IP to a server and you can then use a URL to represent it. I use it for Remote desktop access. Basically instead of logging into my WAN IP and port (eg 10.23.54.123:3389) which would change every time my modem reboots. I can log into (eg macca.redirectme.net:3389). Not sure if getflx supports URLs but worth looking into

Re: Plex Media Server - How To Consume Your Media In Style

Thanks. The reason I'm resetting it is wifi tends to become slow and laggy so I normally just turn the router on and off and it becomes good again.

I think I saw somewhere about getflix having a auto IP reset I assume it costs money and didn't really look much into it.
Another reason while I was considering static IP which was explained by you guys that it's different to my local IP, is that I've been having issues with plex on a tv with a server issue and needing to be reset and dicked around with I thoughts it would stop it playing up.

Also while I remember, occasionally with HD movie or tv show GB or so I get playback issues saying the server isn't powerful enough. Is that referring to my actual plex where my movies are stored? (It is a old slow laptop)
It wouldn't be my TV's or gaming console causing the issue because I can have issues with the plex on a tv or console so then I used Dnla and find it through the folders there and it seems to go ok after that

Re: Plex Media Server - How To Consume Your Media In Style

Those latter issues are all related to your LAN. If you have poor WiFi performance that is limited to 54mbps (~10mbps actual) it will struggle with HD, and more so if you have more than one traffic stream ie Laptop to router, router to TV. So I would either consider taking some of the load off your WiFi via Ethernet. Or possibly getting a new WiFi access point and running it in bridge mode to provide faster throughput.
