you looked at a Kia Optima?

    http://www.kia.com/au/cars/optima.html

my son-in-law has just got into one (non turbo version).. very nice comfy and eay to drive
    loaded with goodies
If the optima gt was within the budget i would definitely consider it. But the 2.4 is getting a bit long in the tooth now and the base model misses out on a lot of goodies.

Work wouldn't come at a Commodore not because of price but because they are ceasing manufacturing in aus at the end of this year.
Ended up with the Elantra Sr. Took delivery today and what a fantastic little car. Feels quicker than expected, very comfortable and has everything you could want in a car.
Given im not paying for it, i am very happy

That's just stupid, but I guess you are not in a position to argue & you can never argue with stupid anyway!

That looks like a nice little car anyway,
as you said, you are not paying for it,

hope you enjoy driving it mate!

It shows you the mindset of non motoring enthusiasts towards holden and why they don't sell many Commodores these days.
The longer warranty and cheaper running costs of the hyundai also factored in, however their main reason was after October they wont be making them anymore

    Exactly!

Sounds like the decision was made only from an ill informed, narrow minded "accountants" point of view
but I would actually bet that in 4 or 5 years time if you do the exercise an SV6 with exactly the same condition & kilometers
will retain a fair bit more resale value.

I also don't expect Holden to walk away from any warranty obligations & I am sure spare parts will be available for a few years to come.

Anyway, it's not your investment so I guess you have to roll with it.

The Hyundai will be a good car & you don't have to pay for it so just enjoy driving it!

So True - ACCOUNTANTS - This is why the manufacturing world is STUFFED.

Cents cheaper OS, but then it's NOT in the end when you factor in long leadtimes, poor erratic quality and unexpected delays.
Suddenly it wasn't so bad as thought making things in Australia - but oops all the expensive plant machinery has been sold at scrap prices to the Chinese and
it's hard to get it back.

American Accountants started it and look how well that worked out for the USA and it's middle class ...? Surviving on one time use Chinese rubbish from Walmart
and food that will kill your pets... eeeeek.

Your budget should stretch to SV6 demo.

Another suggestion is FG XR6 demo.

    Yeah of course happy to.
So far really happy with the car. Handles and goes better than expected. Ride is a good compromise of being sporty but not too firm. Interior is a really nice place to be, seats very comfy and i love the steering wheel, there are no rattles and its all put together really well.
Only negatives so far and this is being picky.
I think some plastics will mark easily especially with my toddler in the car.
Occasionally at slower speeds the DSG gets caught out. This is pretty rare though and i think my driving style is adjusting to the car.
I can only have 1 phone connected at once (i run 2 phones due to work) so this is a small annoyance.

These have come a long way that's for sure. With everyone becoming importers going to seriously look at moving away from Ford & Holden now which is kind of scary but no reason for any loyalty now they are all sales companies for overseas companies. Hyundai is certainly one that have lifted their game.

Erg yes, just in from Wheels, Holden announced 10% reduction in dealers.
Guess many country people will be switching brands definitely as their local Holden dealers vanish end of this year 2017.
