Having gone through 5 exhaust systems on mine, my advice is don't skimp on the price, you get what you pay for, I started with 3" with headers, sounded tough as but the drone killed me. Ended up with 2.5 and HSV rear mufflers. Headers make a huge difference, much deeper note. Mine was a an auto wagon which are a lot more sensitive to drone. Around 2000rpm

That's a common 3" thing mate, especially on a wagon

even the most expensive 3" systems on the market have been known to drone.

Yep, I have the ET twin 3 inch (aka KPM Streetfighter), it is mated to a pair of their 100cpi cats and 1 7/8 Hurricane 4-1's. Still drones a bit at certain revs. Sounds killer though,
    as Wonky can attest to

IMHO they all seem to drone more just with a cat back fitted

rather than when they are fitted as a complete system with a set of headers & decent cats.

I have a difillipo big boy system on my cam only VE SS Sedan, cant attest for a wagon as everyone reakons 2.5'' but personally think 3'' have a better deeper sound. The Di Fillipo is really quiet inside the car at all rpm, no drone at all , if the car is daily drive ect this system is perfect, doesn't annoy any one. I can say the rear mufflers play a big part on noise , drone and note. I recently had magnaflow 3'' Oval 6'' mufflers jigged up to bolt on/off, to replace the di fillipos for abit more sound. The sound is incredible but quite loud outside and inside, some drone under 1800 rpm. Some say Varex xforce system is quite good also as can flip the switch to loud or standard quiet.

    Re: VF2 Redline exhaust mods

Thanks for all the info guys.

Would love to go a full system, tune etc... But not just yet. I think for the time being, I'm pretty satisfied with the note after replacing the centre section with a 2.5" system and maintaining the stock rear mufflers.

Thought I might try the rapid muffler J pipes on the rear for a bit more volume as they're not supposed to drone. Not sure if it'll still be the case noting I've changed my middle section.

Given it's primarily the wife's daily, and she's quite sensitive to drone and it being too loud in the cabin, I think I've found a decent compromise at present. Maybe headers/cats and tune and leave stock rear mufflers on will satisfy me a little more, but keep the volume suitable for her...
