    Spare Parts

Reading the thread today relative to the non availability of a VE Instrument cluster, I was wondering whether any other owners have encountered spare parts issues.
I mean the cluster is only one issue, but if ya can't find one, then how do you drive the car?
I'm aware that owners of later model have had issues sourcing wheels, front bars etc.

Was only discussing this with Brad at Enhanced Automotive the other day post my engine bay wiring loom issue. Not sure if you saw the thread, but I got the last wiring loom in existence from a country Vic Holden Dealer. My 12 year old loom was fried, I am talking snap like a twig in places fried. The car was constantly throwing TB codes and going into safety mode, so basically undriveable and only due to Brad's expertise and persistence did this get rectified. But long story short, if this happens to someone else from what I can see it is bye bye car. There is one bright side for most owners though, Brad reckons cars with top mount blowers are obviously generating a fair bit more heat under the engine bay, so that may have accelerated the process for me.

Other than this recent issue plenty of parts are no longer available new, and super expensive or impossible to source second hand, too much to list if you ask me

PS....HSV Instrument clusters are still around

    Re: Spare Parts

New parts for Holden / HSV are getting quite thin on the ground. I've mentioned two parts recently that are required for basically every VT-VZ but can't be found. First is door strikers, where the plastic breaks away from the metal bracket. A very small item but can't be found. Second is factory CVs, common to fail and factory versions can't be found new. I've begun trying to purchase and store common but difficult to find parts, just in case.

I grabbed a pair of those door catches not long after getting the ute a couple of years back. They were $30 for the pair when I got them. Then suddenly they were well over $100 from memory and then they just stopped being available. Must look at mine and see how they are fairing, they don't seem to last that well to be honest.

Here are a couple of pictures Martin, they are what the door lock latches on to on the door pillar
on the earlier model (up to the VZ model AFAIK) Commodores.

The plastic bit wears or breaks off them then the doors can rattle.

I picked up about 10 of them at the wreckers a few years ago for a few dollars, I actually need to get some more soon.

    Re: Spare Parts

I’ve noticed that mine have started to crack and peel after 20 years.
Might be worth understanding replacement options other than paying silly money.

Looked at my VE yesterday to compare, they are totally different and no plastic coating to fail.

    Re: Spare Parts

You can buy the door strikers from a US supplier:

    https://gtog8ta.com/04-06-gto/04-06-gto-door-striker/

They are a reproduction item. Probably around $220 -$250 AUD for two depending on shipping costs. So not cheap for us in Australia which concerns me purely as they are an unknown. You wouldn't want to spend nearly $500 for a 4 door, get them fitted and find that the rubber is no good.

Good find mate, might buy a pair and get them sent to my daughter in NY, she can bring them home when she next visits. The coating on my OEM ones in the ute seems more like a hard moulded plastic than rubber. I think the key to helping them last is ensuring that they are positioned correctly so that the door catch does not strike them too low or too high when shutting the door, I hope that makes sense

    Re: Spare Parts

Nice! Please let us know how they go. If they're ok, I'll take the plunge at the $250 odd for the two. No other real option that I can see.

Yes, rubber was probably the wrong term. I think the coating may just perish over time anyway but yes, alignment would be very important.

For sure mate, may not be until middle of next year when she comes back to visit, but will let you know what I think of them.
