However, I guess prices may have also gone up, like everything else has. Mine was done a few years ago now.
I really don't know, I just sent an email to the diff shop & asked for a quote. I've sent another email to a different shop, just getting an idea on what it would cost. I'm in no hurry, I've got other things on the list for this car. I've already done suspension, wheels, exhaust, intake & the big one last year with heads, cam, oil pump & lifters. The next thing on the to do list is respray the bonnet & fix a couple of dents. I wish I could turn back time & done a few things different, it would of saved me a few bucks lol.

Got another quote today, I did ask for a truetrac & this was the reply
    1 x OEM Dana Spicer 3.73ratio gear set $575.00
1 x Bearing overhaul kit and labour build differential $795.00
    Total: $1370.00
Fitting service also available if required:
1 x Remove and refit differential assembly and gear oil $460.00

My bloke leaves the diff housing in the car to do this work on the hoist,
he has a very well established & reputable business, he has done plenty of them.

Anyway that quote is better than the other.

    Where is he located?
Sorry for sounding ignorant, but how do I know I'm getting a truetrac installed with the above quote?

I don't think you are getting a TrueTrack with that quote. That's a diff rebuild with new gears (Dana Spicer are the Holden gears as far as I'm aware). I think a True track centre on it's own is now around $800. I'm open to correction on that though.

Sorry, I was wrong, I misunderstood what you wrote.

Yeah, I can't see the point in paying for an "overhaul" (whatever that covers is open to anyone's interpretation??? ) of a stock diff centre.

Definitely not getting a Trutrac for that price! Trutrac list price is almost $1,300. See https://www.harrop.com.au/shop/detro...-m80-28-spline

Harrop is more than an Eaton though. $860 from VPW.

You can buy an Eaton Trutrac for heaps less than buying a Harrop Trutrac

Eaton is a big engineering company that make only first class gear, Harrop are Eaton dealers
& use their rotors in their superchargers as do many other supercharger manufacturers.

I do not know if Harrop make ALL their own gears and casings for their diff centres
but I am not worried about buying an Eaton instead of going through Harrop.

I reckon I bought my Eaton for under $700 on ebay about 3 years ago.

    Re: Advice needed

I managed to buy my Eaton for $600 from VPW via eBay quite a few years ago. I used an eBay discount on top of a VPW discount. I don't think they let you do that any more.

I also bought another one for my mate's 2900 Whipple blown, head & cammed, meth injected, built stroker Caprice at the same time, no problems to report with either.

    Re: Advice needed

I bought a genuine brand new Harrop Trutrac cheap on eBay a few years ago from someone at Harrop but then figured I couldn't justify the cost of installation for my use so sold it on for few hundred profit.

IMO you should have fitted it instead Gary, makes the car drive much straighter & safer.

    Re: Advice needed

My recollection was that the Eaton and Harrop are the same, the Harrop just has a stronger housing for a higher HP rating.
