    Wilwood Brakes

Anyone have any experience with Wilwood Brakes? I am looking at getting their front and rear 6 Piston kits for my VE Calais. I quite often see them on cars in Street Machine but have never really seen
anything on them regarding performance. They seem to have a good name, but just want to make sure they are a good choice prior to replacing my 4 Piston F/R Brembo setup.

    warning.... there are TWO types

most will happily sell you the 'illegal for street versions' (these are for track use only)
    AND
    not tell you that!

make sure you get the ones with the revised seals (that are ADR compliant)
and if you also get the matching caliper hoses, make sure they are the ADR compliant ones too

Thanks Smitty, exactly the kind of info I was after. Only a couple of shops seem to sell the kits for VE/VF and I have never dealt with either. One is Castlemaine Rod Shop who have been around forever it seems and the other is PSI Performance Garage who I have never heard of but are around $400 cheaper than the Rod Shop. Will be sure to ask them about legality prior to purchasing.

    Re: Wilwood Brakes

I reckon I am going to go a different option now. Can get an entire Brembo package with 6 Piston Fronts and 370mm rotors 4 piston rears 360mm rotors for nearly half the price of the Wilwoods with 360mm rotors front and rear. I can order them in Red which is what I want and I know what I am getting having previously had/have Brembo's on the car.

The Rod Shop got back to me regarding the Wilwoods and whilst they have dust boots they recommend getting them Engineer certified. They also no longer sell the rear kits. So once again, thanks to Smitty for pointing me in the right direction

Why do you want to replace your 4 piston Brembo brakes Rod?

Are you planning on taking the car on the race track?

The 4 piston I have Ed were purchased second hand for $1200 a few years back. They are actually off of a Cadillac CTS-V and are Silver with the V logo on them. They are a bit scratched up and the rotors are probably due for the bin. I thought I would use that opportunity to go Red which I like the look of and also up the size on the front which will look better behind 20 inch wheels. So yeah, long story short purely for aesthetics really

I assume your saying that the Bowdens wheel cleaner left them looking a bit jaded?

Damn. Some of the wheel cleaners really are quite harsh, that is extreme though.

Those images are why I've never used a wheel cleaner. I've always cleaned wheels & calipers etc with my ordinary car wash, which when done regularly, with a bit of care, keeps them looking as good as new.

Same here. Mine look the same as they did when new 17 years ago. Although, funnily enough, I regret getting the red caliper HSV AP brakes. I should have purchased the black caliper versions available at the time.

fuuny that mate... I had always used one for years (ArmourAll I found good) and then one fateful day I went into my local REPCO to get more
and met a Bowden. Him being Dan ( I think) and he had a large display in store of all their new products...Bowdens whole range

I got a free bottle of their new improved wheel cleaner to use... used it may 8, 10 times and you can see the result. Very quick Red to Pink change!
Never used any of their stuff again bar one thing I could not give up.... AFTERGLOW. Brilliant product . Used to dry and wax your car at the same time.

AUTOGLYM and DURAGLOSS have similar products but the AFTERGLOW works better imho

But Bowdens wheel cleaner .. stay away . I use MEGUIARS ALL Wheel cleaner these days (have done since I repainted those calipers 2, 3 years ago)
... with a BMW M coupe in the family, I need something that works

    Re: Wilwood Brakes

I'm no expert, but I remember probably around 20 yrs ago the subject of Wilwood brakes came up, particularly their suitability for road use, the problem being that whilst these brakes, at the time were ok for track use, they would not be suitable for regular road use, something to do with seals etc, can't remember exactly but I'm sure it was something to do with adverse weather conditions. Obviously that issue no longer applies, as these brakes crop up everywhere.
