    Re: Time to upgrade:

Yeah the roady before Christmas is a gamble .... it's $250 I may wave bye bye to if it goes tits up ........ but as I say the dice are rolled and I am keen as Fark ........ this thing just presses my button's.

It's the right color, its in immaculate condition in and out (the only blemish is a tiny dint on the right rear door that some dick did in a parking lot the day before I came to view it - owner was gutted), it's got new HSV brakes on it all round (slotted rotors etc) that have done less then 10k on them, mods are just enough ...... the owner is as big an OCD dick as me when it comes to keeping it perfect (and I got a seriously good vibe from him) .......tick tick tick, all the boxes ...... price was more than reasonable as well (especially given what i have seen so far ...... nothing came even close to comparing to this thing)

    Fingers crossed fella's

PPI done - no issues highlighted - PPSR clean. (As expected)

Owner is organizing the re fit of the standard air box - so all going well, off for the roady on Friday.

Funny, I did some work on the VY this week and drove around the hills for a bit .......... it's a bloody great car and I am struggling with the thought of having to get rid of it........ sigh

Advertise it for 100k obo and see how long it sits around. Other than that, surely any money you get for the VY goes into the mod account for the VF? That is the only reasonable option that I can think of.

The way things are going with prices on rare Holdens I can easily imagine it getting there in the next 5 years.

There are not many VY SS wagons around, it is a very rare car. (I can't remember the last time I saw one.)

If you believe the interweb they made 500 Series 1 and 350 Series 2. Low numbers if true.

and only 88 in Quick Silver (auto) .......... I have seen one other Quick Silver SS Wagon on the road EVER ........ we actually pulled over for a chin wag - bloke even looked like me LOL bald, grey beard ...... but mine looked waaaaaaay better LOL (the car ......... Meh, and maybe the beard too)

    Just read this:

500 of series I, 350 of series II and 100 went to NZ in series I. Although I can't remember if the 100 was on top of the 500 or included in the 500.

There is no way of telling the build AFAIK.

    I agree with you Drew.
I was reading the post above yours that said there was 250 of each series and thought to my self "I thought it was 500 series 1 and 350 series 2"

That makes 250 red ones (series1 only)

    425 black ones (250 series 1 and 175 series 2)

    and only 175 quicksilver ones.

The guy at Holden told me that the colours were evenly split with regards to trans choice with half being manual and half being auto so the figures would then look something like:

    125 red manual.
    125 red Automatic

    212 Black Manual
    213 Black Automatic

    and

    87 Silver Manual
    88 Silver Automatic.

So as you can see the VY SS wagons are rare as no matter which colour / trans chioce you made but the quick silver ones are REALLY rare!

    Re: Time to upgrade:

So, got me a question (I'm feeling a little confident today about the progress ........ funds are available and roadworthy is only 2 sleeps away ........yeah yeah I know, what am I 6 ....) ........................

With all the dramas with this VF 'tax' and them being nicked every bloody 6 seconds in this state (I am only ''sightly'' freaked out about what I am getting myself into); I am doing my due diligence on how best to secure this beast (if and when it does happen). Now I know nothing is 100% and it doesn't matter what 'device' or 'system' is in place, a tilt tray can still ruin your day. Buuuuuut, I have been thinking down the lines of:

Physical lock for steering wheel and or brake pedal - visual deterrent and to slow them down (PIA to use every time you drive the car somewhere but it is what it is).

Alarm system with usual battery back up siren/tilt/shock sensors etc (similar to the Viper I have on my VY - which also has a GPS tracking module)

ODBII duplication/relocation - (with some additional ''consequences'' if something is plugged into the port - like 12v down the data line and an ear splitting piezo siren in the cab on battery backup)

    Horn wiring relocation

    Kill Switch (for fuel pump)

    Faraday cage for keys

    OR ..........

What about something like IGLA https://eurochiptuning.com.au/igla-immobiliser

I know the best defense is to lock it up but that isn't always gunna work and I am going to want to drive this thing and park it somewhere with some confidence (I've also considered a boot chimp or Rottweiler ..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW8iAVwt_Yc)

What are folks thoughts ......... not so much on the boot chimp ...

An apple airtag hidden somewhere. The things are actually very good.
I use them in my luggage when I travel and can always tell when my bag is about to hit the carousel, or worse, missed the flight.

    Re: Time to upgrade:

Everyone should do their own research, but I personally wouldn't use an Air Tag for this purpose. It only works short distances, bouncing off other devices, and can be found using a simple phone app. However, that's just my opinion.

    Here's some reading though:
