I think your BMW sounds very desirable in the marketplace so it would be a very easy car to sell at the correct money
& you would get much more for it than you would as a trade in.
Best of luck.![]()
no.... ! NOT quitting the HSV but her 2014 BMW 1 series M Coupe
10 years old sure but low clicks.. just got to 60,000km and niggles
(read EXXXIE) on the BMW. Pre-service check shows little things
but a long list to fix ... eg. collapsed rear axle bumpstops (WTF?)
the usual oil, filter +, 20,000km brake fluid flush $220 thank you,
new front engine accessory drive belt $350 for that inc labour
(thank feck the cam is on a chain) etc etc blah balh
and
so, she agrees it is time to upgrade. Plus wants something with FOUR DOORS
the BMW is getting to be a PITA with huge, read long doors that are heavy
and hard to get out of.
During the past 2 weeks, the missus has been trawling the Nepean Hwy
from Elsternwick to Mentone.. every make is on this strip but first stop
where we got the BMW from... Brighton BMW and hates it all. FUGLY!
Then Bayside Euro (Cupra and VW) then Brighton Ford and ...on and on down
the highway, she even went to Porscheuntil at Jeffereson Hyundai
she spots a KONA SUV N Line HYBRID with full leather and a sunroof
(both mandatory for anything new as the BMW has them)
Long story but had a test drive of a demo model from Southland KIA (don't ask)
for a couple of hours Saturday morning.. nice! and so, she is sold
Nice price too.. just over $51k driveaway (the BMW trade-in $ will be interesting)
I drove it... very different to the BMW of course. Handles surprisingly well for a SUV
superbly quiet as you would expect (VERY noticeable after getting out of the BMW)
and pretty quick. Needed to get across 4 lanes of traffic in the highway and it just
.. went! I was surprised to be honest and the ICE did not kick in until across and in
the service lane on the other side of the highway
One final comment.. the integration between electric/ICE engines is in a word.. superb!
You have to check the dash instruments to see which/what is running... interesting dash too
and whats it look like?

I thought you may have been updating the Mrs
Red Hot M6 VE SS Ute. Curves yes please on my women and my road.
.. thanks
the big issue if selling privately is the RWC Safety certificate... with the screen having
a chunk out (5c piece size) . Not in view of either front occupants and not swept by the
wipers, it needs replacing as the passenger airbag aims for it if deployed.
the genuine BMW screen (yeah with all required sensors ) is metallized, anti-sun type ...
and a bargain at $1800 fitted plus another $250 for programming of the new screen sensors
Geuine?.. lots of horror stories on BMW forums about how the rain sensor auto wiper setup
and the rear view mirror auto dim does not work with aftermarket screens
It may need another oil level sensor too.. stupid idea as they only last about 3 years before
throwing up crazy oil level readings. A $50 dipstick and tube is quicker and more accurate
but can't be used on a pressurised engine that BMW uses.
Hint.. NEVER unscrew the oil cap on a BMW engine whilst running. You, the engine bay and bystanders
will get a nice HOT oil shower as its sprays oil everywhere This was a warning from the sales manager
at the BMW dealer we bought the car from

Korean cars have come a long way since the bad old days
Looks like a pretty smart unit Smitty, & good value too. My sister recently bought a similar Honda hybrid & she loves it.
We haven't gone down that path yet, I don't have the GTSR anymore, so it's good that Karen's car, her Audi RSQ3, can go very quickly when she wants to, no-one beats her from the lights when she's trying, but, at the same time, I still miss that V8 "feel" & sound!
I hope all goes well with the Hyundai,...a good Christmas present.
.... thanks Pickles
Appreciate the comments... this move is all new to us (given me currently with the HSV, she the 1 series M coupe)
with the new world order (climate needs action by Joe public) needing us to show some sensitivity... if we can with
an EV (which still needs solar, wind or gas, no nuclear though) or with the Hyundai Kona Hybrid Premium
(no current EV floats either of our boats although the KIA EV6 loomed until we saw the price!)
Have seen a few on the roads in Melbourne's SE burbs and Jan is quick to go... hey that is what I have ordered![]()

Funny story with my wife’s car that’s she’s had since her 50th and was a brand new MX5.
14 years on and she’s complaining about having to bend down so far to get into it.
Luckily her 92 year old father bought himself a new Honda HRV that he registered in her name.
If I wait long enough I’ll kill 2 birds with one stone.
Just wondering did you checkout either the Tucson Hybrid which is actually a 1.6 turbo hybrid, as opposed to the Kona, which is 1.6 non turbo hybrid. My thinking is if your driving a hybrid out on regional roads and say your passing slower traffic, if the relatively small battery in the hybrid runs out of charge might you experience a rather sudden loss of power with a non turbo hybrid? I've never driven a hybrid, so I have no personal experience with one. Kia also have similar turbo 1.6 turbo hybrid in Sportage. Flicking through Wheels magazine price lists, a turbo hybrid seems to be a rare combination other than in a Hyundai or Kia.
I hate to say it, but I drove a B200GLB in Tasmania for 10 days and it would be one of the best cruising cars I’ve driven.
Good road holding, decent urge all out of a 1.3T. If I didn’t know it felt like a 2.5L 6.
Very comfortable for many hours behind the wheel on B roads.
For $50k I’d buy a second hand one.
we did.. she did
Thought it was too big compared to the KONA she wants (and ordered)
similar story with the Sportage, just that tad too big re parking and getting around ever congested suburbia
Sat morning parking at the grandson's footy games bayside Melbourne is a joke (find somewhere several streets away)
Interesting, we went the 2.0 ltr NA engine/7 speed auto in the M coupe (not the 2LT or 6cyl versions) when we bought
that and she reckons... and I agree that the KONA 1.6l / hybrid is a bit quicker. Lighter and with 2 motors up front
are probably the advantages
And it is surprisingly quicker just on the electric motor.. it will haze the front tyres (who said I am a hoon)
ps.. there are a few of these getting around now, seen in our local shopping strip at the weekend
