the Shark will leave the Raptor behind, beauty of an EV is all the torque is linear, so keeps pulling

yeah the seals are also a nice car but time for a bit more of a practical car for me that allows me to chuck stuff in the back or on the roof. Ive been getting into camping lately with my young lad so this car kind of makes sense.

good thing of this car is you can drive there on ICE engine, leaving you state of charge at 70% then set camp up and use the car battery to run everything - the thing has 4x 240V 10amp plugs that can all run at the same time and also has V2L. so I can run fridges, or cook using an induction cooker which seems to be all the rage at the moment without having to outlay for second batteries and inverter systems.

V2L (vehicle to load) also allows me to plug the car into the house and run the house off the car battery in the event of a power outage or more importantly we now have time based usage for electricity at home so it is most expensive to run use power between 5pm-8pm when solar is not running, I can choose to run the house off the car battery and then when it clicks back to a lower tarrif at night switch back to the grid and charge the car overnight (bidirectional charger required to do this)

I also had a fella in an SUV BYD try me in the VY the other week ......... Bzzzz nope again LOL (he wanted a second go at the next set of lights but once is enough these days .......... probably shouldn't have put the foot down the 1st time but damn I do dislike all these soulless things). Sorry Tod ........ just my personal preference. Anything out of China can go get stuffed (again, sorry mate nothing personal)
No offence taken at all mate each to their own they are heavy as shit they are a dual cab ute with a bloody big battery sitting between the rails- that is why the towing capacity is only 2.5t compared to a relative 3.5t in competitors. It might have been a different story if you were both towing a trailer though. the shark has over 300kw to 4 wheels so its no slouch like I said the 0-100 time is 0.2 seconds slower then the monaro a 20 year old car - (stock).

One thing I will say for BYD is they are pretty quick to send updated over the air for issues as the first lot of customers have started to notice issues with things like not being able to select different driving modes whilst towing- update to be sent out next week - issue was only made aware early last week. How are holden(GM) going with updating their security for the VF to stop them getting knocked of

If I want to play traffic light tag then I got a lot faster vehicles in the garage that will beat most things on the road.

I understand the lack of soul statement (thus the reason I went with the BYD Shark) I was really interested in the Tesla but the interior looks like a sterile waiting room, the interior of the shark looks and feels like a 100k car.

I always thought id never buy anything chinese or a car made in china but the BYD as a company and the shark as a vehicle is hard to pass up - for only a 4? year old car manufacturer they are already top 5 car manufacturer in the world and are a very big reason why manufacturers like Nissan and VW are really in trouble.

there are a lot of benefits to buying this for me apart from the fact I think its a nice looking car (understand personal preference but it does look like a ranger copy) it will allow me to go off grid camping for long stints at a time in luxury, save money on utility bill as stated eariler and also I don't pay a cent in FBT so save tens of thousands a year in tax.

Best of luck with your new purchase Todd.

Yes the other thread has gone miles off topic,

I will delete a number of the off topic posts in a few days,

meanwhile any new ones that I see about your shark will be merged in this thread if I see any.

What colour are you getting mate?

got an email the other day, expected 8-30 march - ordered 28th November.

got the sales contract on Monday and returned signed on Tuesday and was told that apparently its sitting at outer harbour so hopefully closer to 8th then 30th, Im currently driving around in a borrowed mazda 323 which is a cool little run about but no AC which is killing me on days like today.

Ive ordered mine with a steel cargo cab and lower crash bar and there is apparently a delay in those as well, Ive told them Im happy to take the car and come back later once accessories are all in ready to be installed.

Still have the monaro (not registered) and don't intend on getting rid of it, but once Ive got a new daily then the monaro will be stripped down and fully restored/repaired to what it deserves

Re: Toddler got bitten by a shark (BYD Shark)

So today was the day. I must admit this is my first brand new vehicle purchase and I thought I would be a little more excited, it was a little anti climatic.

It’s definitely a huge learning curve comming from a 20 year old analogue Monaro to a full electric touch screen everything with sensors and safety stuff galore. It’s a little over whelming driving for the first time in peak hour traffic.

Any who im pretty happy with the purchase and looking forward to learning all the little quirks.

Im still waiting for the rear canopy, front crash bar and wheels to be fitted as there is a backlog in getting them fitted,

This is the first step of going full electric at home and hoping to save approx $10,000 a year in fuel, and utilities costs

Here’s a couple of pics of the car

Yes it does, and thanks for sharing your experience mate. Is it about the same size as a Ranger? I assume it fits in your garage for charging?

yeah, pretty close, it is slightly longer and taller (mm's) but yeah in essence the same. No doesn't fit in garage as I have racks along the back wall, if I remove them then yes will fit. charging, I can still charge and run the cable under the garage or I can install a 10amp point outside to plug into. I can plug in at work anyway as I have a charging station I can use and also 10amp GPO that I can also plug into for free.

Seriously talking about acceleration in this on this forum is the same as my son bragging about kicking a goal against me it is lost on the quality of cars here, however for a 2.5tonne vehicle the acceleration is very supporting and will defiantly get you out of trouble on the road and would supprise a lot of people.

it sure does not disgrace itself acceleration wise with a sub 14 quarter. Especially as you say at 2.5 tonne.
