The warranted life span of LFP batteries is at least 15 years assuming you fully discharge and charge everyday, there are already battery recycling programs in place and there will be an industry for it you don’t need to government mandate it.
Street tuna actually posted a really good video on YT the other day, ev fires are extremely rare compared to ICE vehicles the difference is they are harder to put out.
The carbon required to build and maintain roads - it’s already there regardless if an ice vehicle or ev is using it so it’s a moot point. The weight argument of evs is also a mute point I beleive, sedans and small cars have always been the staple of life in Australia up until the mid 2000s when suv and 4wd have flooded the market both being heavier and yes there are plenty of commercial vehicles on the road heavier then evs.
I could probably go on and on, one thing I will conceded is if we are charging evs up on coal and gas then it is a bit of an oxymoron, however I would say that most people that have invested in an ev also have invested in solar and or home battery storage so coal and gas powered charging is probably low.
I do think we should give more weight and thought to nuclear to help stabilise the grid however labor’s home battery rebate will help stabilise the energy market I feel. I’ve just invested in a larger solar system and a home battery storage system for home and my car and battery/inverter are bidirectional ready meaning I can run my house off my car of an evening time not drawing on the grid when the sun goes down. Between my home battery and car battery I will have over 60kwh of battery storage enough to run my entire house for 3 days running everything flat out(assuming there is no sun for those 3 days) if people take up this battery technology as much as they did with home solar then that will almost fix the energy crisis. I am all in on EVs and am looking at buying a second ev for the wife which would then put our total storage capacity at over 120kwh!
What really was a wake up call for me was speaking to a fuel tanker driver one day who told me that the semi they drove full of fuel that they picked up from Birkenhead has enough for just one station and that station will need another delivery of fuel the next day to not run out. Times that by how many petrol stations there are around. That is a lot of miles being added to the road(damage) and carbon to deliver that fuel
A lot faster and cheaper to deliver neutrons down a power line then fuel.
I’m actually really surprise government and industry doesn’t utilise rail like the old days surely it would be more cost effective to load all this road freight up on a 2km long freight train and have two drivers transporting it interstate rather then the hundreds of trucks and personal on the roads.
One thing I heard a while back which comes to mind we can’t stop all crime so that means we shouldn’t try.
By John’s reasoning by the sounds of it is that because EVs arnt the silver bulllet then we shouldn’t embrace them.
Having now owned an ev I can say with confidence an ev can do everything an ice vehicle can and in many cases better. The only thing you miss out on with an ev is the sound of the engine/exhaust.

Excellent post Toddler, right up until the last bit lol. There is a lot an EV cannot do that an ICE can. Towing for one thing. You ain't towing a large van around Australia with an EV. You are not accessing remote area's 4wd'ing in an EV. I could go on but won't. There is definitely a place for them though around the city where the range anxiety is less of an issue.

Been going strong! Almost 3000km traveled and if used a little under 60L and that was mainly cause I was towing a 2.5T excavator in hybrid and the little petrol engine was running hard to charge the battery as it drove.
Apart from that nothing else really of note to update on. Still waiting on all the dealer fitted accessories to be fitted to the car so it’s still stock looking.
Did a few minor mods on it just to personalise it and keep my lad happy in the back seat when on trips.
Really enjoying the quite drive

her choice in that .. she wanted something with 4 doors ( her BMW M coupe does not)
has a large sunroof (the BMW coupe is pretty small but that is how they were in 2014)
actually has a comfy ride.. a BMW M Coupe with runflats (no room for a spare you see)
is NOT !, seats 5 comfortably (4 only in her BMW and the 2 in the back better be kids)
does NOT require super dooper 98 PULP and is a modern hybrid...a HEV and DEF not
a PHEV (she thinks the extension lead idea is 'silly'
Paid the $ for this and she is luvving it. Happy wife, happy life
