Thanks DD it's coming along well, a bit slow but I'm in no rush to finish it!

It's a bit of a Rubick's Cube, there's an order that the dash needs to go together in or you spend time unbolting things... doh!

Still waiting on a few small parts so I'll just keep plodding away at it, veg weekend watching the V8's in NZ

Hopefully <fingers crossed> this will get rid of the squeak in the dash it's had since I got it!

You should have checked the ash tray for some bolts before pulling the car apart to fix the squeak.. lol
Can't wait to see the finished job, I'm absolutley useless when it comes to doing something like this so I'm at awe when I read about a build like this.

LOL or a pair of earrings

Been playing cars for a bit over 30 years now, still learning as I go!

"finished" won't be until the end of the year, for now it'll just be a dead stock V8 AWD Tonner but "should" be a blast compared to the V6, I guess I should qualify that as the V6 had a very effective ESP that meant NO SIDEDWAYS even on wet grass.....

I used to bag on the car for being guttless compared to the V8 wagon!

    Today!
Just running some wires that "should" have gone in before the dash was installed... DOH!

I'm just about finished on them then can install the console and a few other bits before it comes to a halt while I wait on parts..

    Today End!
My Non leather wheel for the Wagon arrived today so I ditched the wiring job and installed that then went into town to check mail, my Trans parts from the US were there so now it's just bits and pieces from Holden left to turn up and it's good to finish

Hey what size tyres are you gunna run ?

My advice to you is that there is nothing off-road in 18 inch
and to stick to 17 inch or even 16's .

This thing is being built as a fast road car/track toy so won't ever go offroad

I need to sort a brake package for it and that will decode the wheel diameters, was going to use a PBR M Kit but looks like totally different front rotors...

    Re: Cross-6>8 swap

LOL yep about the only offroad it'll do will be my driveway
(means I can slam it as well)

If I were to build it for offroad I'd look at a dual range transfer case and some BIG tires (seen the pic with no engine a few pages back? pg #12)

    Re: Cross-6>8 swap

    Today!
Spent part of the morning sorting out my fluro leadlight as it stopped working yesterday...

Pulled the one out of my bead blasting cabinet so I could try the starter and tube to rule them out bzzz nuh nothing that easy, swapped the ballast and it fired up, figured I don't need the bead blaster at the moment so I'll swap the long lead over and replace the ballast later....

bzzzz #2, no go, check the lead with the meter and yep it's broken... ARGGHH

Trim out the broken section of lead wire it up reassemble both lights and refit the one in the BB and it's all good, went back to the wiring on the car I ditched yesterday and finished it off, after lunch I'll install the console then see about pulling the front out of both Auto's and swapping the parts around and fitting the reinforcing kit.

I have to make the run to Holden tomorrow as there was a miscommunication that would mean I'd be lucky to get my parts by Friday..

    Re: Cross-6>8 swap

    Today End!
1 step forward, 2 sideways and 1 backwards... pretty normal day all in all

Finished off the Console and started installing it then noticed I'd broken a couple of clips on the Shifter base pulling it out, I HATE rattles/squeaks in cars so rang up and ordered a replacement part so that puts the trip to Holden off by a day...

Another "got-ya" is the plastic pegs that drive the shift indicator, if you don't position them right one will break off... (ordered that as well) also getting a new shift boot, mine for a 6 year old car is in surprisingly bad condition.

Pulled the front out of the V8 Donor trans, looks like it came from a swamp buggy that didn't float or ever have it's fluid changed! (not having a shot at ya Dave just an observation as the hard parts I need from it are fine)

Another "got-ya" is the trans reinforcement kit requires an older style Aluminium Forward Piston to work and as the V8 trans is a late model thing it has the Steel piston that won't work..... I'll see if I can source one here if not I'll chase one up in the USA again...

    Re: Cross-6>8 swap

    Today p.s.
Place in the US does a Billet forward piston and a torrington bearing for that location so just e-mailed my mate to get one!

(gotta love the fact I can buy all this off the shelf instead of hours at the CNC making it)
