You can find the same videos about R35s or most cars of any note for that matter.

The two ZR1s on Carsales are $200k with basically delivery / demo kays. The last review I watched of one was comparing to a Ferrari and McLaren.

R35s seem to vary from $115k for a 2009 model, to $185+ for a brand new one. A brand new ZL1 Camaro converted and ready to go is $160k. In the US I believe that the R35 is in between ZL1 and ZR1 in terms of pricing. When you look at those prices, the GTS starts to look like a relative bargain!

I personally am not interested in comparing it to the A45, but you can compare it to anything you like really.

I think the new GTS is bloody awesome. A few years back no one would have thought Australia could bring out a car like that with 588hp and the associated technology. Its really great effort and the guys from HSV should be on the Australian Honors list haha

I suppose you could but are they the same type of car? I mean it aint a big family large sedan neither is it RWD. The 0-100 of the AMG is 4.6sec i would hazard a guess the GTS would be a chunk quicker.

If we're talking big power large RWD sedans without factoring cost then the higher priced Euros are direct competition but if you throw in the fact that they are a serious amount more coin i sure as hell wouldn't be griping over being 1 or 2 tenths of a second slower than one.

You were saying earlier we can’t compare a similarly powered though cheaper supercharged Commodore GTS with the performance of the supposedly faster E63 and far less powerful naturally aspirated C63 as they are much more expensive.

Now you say we can’t compare the less powerful A45 with supposedly equal performance of the GTS even though the little AMG is cheaper because it’s a difference type of car.

Who do we compare the performance of the GTS too if not other performance cars?
Maybe the less powerful and much cheaper supercharged Falcon GT?

Most people who have the coin and interest to buy performance cars in the higher price range would laugh if the car was all power and no go.

If that's the case then the cheaper price point of the GTS will only be of interest to those who are buying no more than a Supercharged HSV and have no interest in true performance.

Remember tenths of a second do make a difference among the performance brands.
Tenths of a second make an even bigger difference for drag and track racers.
Tenths of a second add up very quickly when being left for dead by a faster car.

And all this argument and defence of a car before any real world performance figures are available.
I’m starting to think the Euro’s have little to fear from the GTS other than a cheaper price.
Still the extra cost of the Euro’s does get you the endless list of little things in regard to safety and finesse the Commodore owners are blissfully ignorant too.

refer back to Camaro ZL1 results go get an idea of how the GTS will perform, as it is the same platform and drivetrain. It should not disappoint (I tend to find it's only usually JDM types who think HSV = good for skid pig and nothing else)

Some people buy expensive Euro cars to satisfy a level of "look what I can afford" to their friends/neighbours/colleagues

Price is not always about performance.

Why are you so concerned anyway who cares. The Euros wont care either Australia is a small market for them and they know the people who fork out 250,000 for new E63 AMG are not really the same people in the market for a GTS. Yes people who buy the GTS are people who are interested in the 2nd had market for E63 but not really many would be in the new buyers market.

I don't think that is really fair, not everyone can afford a luxury euro built car and a $100,000 is a far cry from $170,000.

The whole point of this is pretty simple, on a $ for $ factor why would you expect the GTS to beat the more expensive Euro? The more buck you give over the more bang you would generally expect (talking performance cars).

If we are comparing sedan vs sedan and blown V8 vs blown V8 of course they are direct competitors but the comment was made that "it would want to be faster then the much higher price euros"! The question remains, why should it be faster? It's less than half the price of the E63 AMG. That is the point i was trying to make.
