I recorded it on Foxtel Wed night and watched it last night. It's basically a good promo for the GTS with no real meat (IMO) apart from highlighting the conflicting demands of the design team and engineers.

I enjoyed it as a fanboy but don't know that it will win over too many haters. Garth Tander certainly had fun smoking the tyres around the track!

It was pretty rubbish really. Even Top Gear Australia would have done a better job IMO (and that's saying something). It was really just repetitive footage of the car going round a track and then talking about how much the head designer and head engineer whinge to the boss about each other. If it was done in a joking manner it might be funny, but there seemed to be a real undertone of "we really don't like each other". For a car that is fitted with an all new diff and engine, they only made general passing comments about the technology rather than actually talking it up. It was a bit like "It got the 430kw supercharged LSA engine, but you all already know what that is so I won't bother saying anything more about it. FYI It was pretty hard to fit it in though". The closest they came to showing you the EDI features was having the G meter on screen as the car went around corners, which is useful for wankfactor but not much else. If you already have one on order, the footage of it doing massive skids might get you a bit excited in the pants while you wait for it to arrive, but for anyone who wasn't already a HSV buyer it did nothing to help potential sales. All the "fun" footage came after Tander said he turned all that new technology OFF, so that's hardly a good advertisement to spend the extra money to get that technology is it?
The car itself is awesome, but HSV missed a big opportunity to get potential new buyers looking at one with this rather lacklustre production.

That is not what I thought it would be.
I thought that it would explain / describe the R & D behind the GTS, & portray some of the build process.
The engineering behind this car is what it's all about, so that's what I thought would be in the DVD?
    Cheers, Pickles.

Thanks for the wrap up, Kris. Like the others, I was expecting something a bit more substantial. Even something in the style of the 25th Anniv. GTS build video they did for YouTube would have been nice. Gees, even Toyota Oz got a MegaFactories episode out of their Hybrid Camry!!

Comes as no real surprise. HSVs marketing department have been failing for years.

but as he said the car is quicker with the aids turned on and that's saying something with someone of his driving calibre. of cause leaving traction control on isn't going to allow massive 3rd gear power skids/drifting. it goes to show how well the new tech actually works to control the beast

I enjoyed it too, but more because I'm a fanboy. There was really nothing of any substance there.

That's my point though. He just said that as a passing comment when the head honcho of HSV queried him on it and then continued the drive with all of it turned off. If he's going to say that they should have continued on to show exactly that. Do a hot lap with it all off and then one with it all on and show everyone how good it all works together. Though he's not really going to say to the boss of HSV on camera that the car is faster/better with it all turned off is he?
All the things they should have really showcased were glossed over really quickly. Having the head engineer talking about the engine or diff while standing next to it would have been good, but instead we could only just see the engine on a stand in the shadows in the background while he talked about it. The head designer should have been talking about the need to incorporate more air intake space while standing in front of the actual bumper, but instead it was just a shot of him using his hands to show you how big it was like he was talking about a fish he caught on the weekend. I guess I just had higher expections from a program about the making of HSV's new hero car.
