    COTF...Sandown.

There's been a bit of talk lately about the Nissan & Erebus teams being able to make the right power. They're not allowed now to use a different fuel, but V8 Supercars say 4 stops will even things up. I say it won't. It ain't gonna help these teams at Sandown, especially in qualifying, and it's been demonstrated that if ya qualify mid-field, sometimes that's where ya stay.
Todd Kelly says they can't make the power, & I don't think Jack Daniels will be happy to see their sponsorship dollars continually at the back of the pack. Todd says they simply haven't got the dollars to do any more R/D on an engine which is basically a road car engine.
It will be interesting to see what evolves.
    Cheers, Pickles.

ignoring the fuel consumption issue for the moment, personally to even it up they
should have ALL makes have the same power to weight ratio ..and if that means
extra weight for the ford and Holden boyz..so be it!

on fuel consumption, i think the idea of enforced stops is the correct one in my opinion as
how else to you even this up? let the Nissan/Erebis carry more fuel? oops that a weight
penalty! Start all with the same fuel load ..and make the same number of 'enforced' refilling
    stops

Maybe they should try an OHV pushrod engine, they seem to work pretty well...............

Dont quote me on it, but i believe the enforced stops still wont even it up 1 qualifying as Pickles said and 2 I think the Nissan Erebus have the issue of burn as well, so even with 4 stops they will have to stop longer each time, I think its along the lines of 14 seconds all up, but again dont quote me

Controlled 2v head and make everyone start from scratch?

I don't think this is a fault of Nissan/Mercedes engine more so an oversight by V8Supercars in their COTF homologating process. Also the 'test fuel e70' was a **** up that should be worn by V8Supercars.

What a way to make the most watched racing in Australia look like a terrible joke

^ yep what you said, and cant do control engine as the new guys including volvo want to use their own branded engines, but tough to catch up on 20 years of development in 6 months

They will have to even it it up somehow though, if fords pullsthe pin in a year or so it would be pretty boring just watching V8 superholdens

Mercedes Benz are not happy either......they are saying that something has to change......not much good competing if ya haven't got a chance of winning, mentioning that Betty's license to run a Mercedes expires at the end of 2014?

I still think going back to the original basics of touring cars, modified road cars, is the way to go... Helps companies move metal, AND supporters can actually get in on it with relevance to the car you can buy. Dont put parity rules in, at least to an extent, let the manufacturers make a car that can win...

If that was the case it wouldn't be a v8 series for full sized sedans that's for sure

    Re: COTF...Sandown.

Current series is largely irrelevant being a silhouette class not actually based on real cars may as well have a control car and change the badges....

I enjoy the racing but miss the days of production based cars, worst thing they ever did was to go to the 2 make format when they found they couldn't compete/win against world cars..

i still look at NASCAR which I have just been watching, and they seem to have it pretty sorted with silhouette cars and parity and they make a fortune as well.... i know its easier for crowds in a stadium at night, but surly they can get something to work

Absolutely would not work. How could Holden compete with HSV? How could Holden compete with a C63 AMG? How could Nissan compete with any of them? It would fast become a one horse race and kill off the touring car scene completely. The golden years of low volume Australian production race cars designed to win Bathurst are over and wont be coming back.

Going to production cars will result in significant lap time reductions and that will cause a loss of appeal. A lot of people don't realise just how quick the V8s are compared to production cars. The BrUtes are the closest thing to Australian production car racing and even they have parity rules to (try) and keep the manufacturers level.

The unfortunate truth. You guys remember what happened last time right?

Nissan pretty much single handedly killed Group A with the R32 GT-R both here and in Japan. The only comparable Nissan for a production car race would be the GT-R for example. I could dig Corvette ZR1 vs GT-R vs C63 AMG, but it does defeat the purpose to some degree.
