I just joined the forum to try and find a solution to the same problem - just had a 30K service and key did not work for boot release - but does work with the 2 second hold - so already had useful info from forum after a few minutes - thanks guys.

Should be just over one second but "feels" longer due to the delay from the previous instant release (which was causing issues with apparent "random" boot releases via people usually sitting on the keys).
It would certainly be better if customers were told of this BCM upgrade, but I suspect the main reason many aren't is because the service advisors aren't actually informed by the tech's that the car required the software upgrade (as no customer request or problem description leads to it being on the repair order as a job).

Plenty of stock is currently available.
Spoke to my Service Manager today and they have the clips in stock so hopefully they can sort it next week...along with the wiper motor now

Wiper motors have been a bit of a seller for a while now, so I'm not surprised. They get an internal short and fail.
This is what tends to happen when car manufacturers have to source parts from cheap Asian countries to keep pulling out cost to keep the consumers happy with low prices (and it happens with ALL mainstream brands). "Quality control" has a constant storm cloud hovering above it, waiting to unleash a storm one day...

planetdavo - any idea what is involved in replacing the wiper motor? Just hope they don't have to pull the dash apart and then I will get the usual rattles and creaks

The issue is caused by the asian supplier not greasing the internal gear as instructed- causing it to (potentially) fail. Obviously far more likely in a high rainfall location where usage of the wipers happens regularly.
Replacing it is fairly simple as it's contained underneath the plastic plenum covers forward of the windscreen lower.

    Re: VF Commodore/HSV Owner's Problems & Complaints

My SSV ute went in for seat bases recall, and seat tensioner adjustments on Friday

I was heading out for dinner last night, and as I put the seatbalt on, I felt something sticky on the base of the seatbelt clasp - didnt think too much about it, then got out and went into the restaurant, only to notice a black dirty mark over the left side of my jacket.
When I got home, I shone a torch down the side of the drivers seat, only to see 3 or 4 ugly pieces of black gooey glue and aluminium tape - looks just like gutter flashing tape wtf??

I ring Holden this morning - Oh yeah - that was one of the recalls - stick 10cents worth of ali backed tape around the seat wiring??? - no sorry for ruining your jacket, or sorry for a third world quality job.

Anyone else had this dodgy recall?

That type of tape is used because it's super super sticky, but is gentle on the wiring (unlike cable ties done up tight that might cut into the wiring- or electrical tape that could unwind after repeated heat exposure from baking hot summers causes the adhesive to fail). It is only to keep the wiring from rubbing on a bolt, and is for the best part out of view, so it's function is far more important than it's form.
The dealer should at least offer to reimburse for dry cleaning or something similar, and have a quick look at the car to ensure any remnants are cleaned up. I'd suggest a chat with the service manager for a resolution.

Davo - that is a crap solution!!

What about a neat piece of convolutted tubing, or similar??

Honestly, this is not a good thing - it is in easy view in daylight

They had to pull the bloody seat out to change the base, why not have a piece of tubing to sleeve over the wires then??

2c pathetic job - who sticks this crap to a leather seat?

Even Hyundi or Kia wouldnt do this dodgey work

You mean the same Hyundai that got dealers to drill holes in lower control arms in the past to rivet the two halves of the arm together as a recall?
You'd be quite surprised what goes on that could be intrepreted as "dodgy", but is actually pretty common.

Awful answer. Two wrongs don't make a right. It doesn't matter what other manufacturers do, it's no excuse.

Tough sh!t what you think of my answer. I did it to give another example of how the world works when it comes to reworks and recalls. Stuff involving tapes, foam strips, clips, cable ties and so forth is a regular occurance in the car industry when it comes to reworks and recalls. NO MATTER WHAT BRAND!
I'd be quite surprised if 99.5% of the population even noticed the addition of the tape. Obviously the sticky stalk and so forth are a different matter, as that's a quality control issue with the tech.
If someone isn't happy with the appearance or whatever of any rework or recall, they should talk to a higher authority about it (as I suggested earlier). Maybe the owner could discuss with the service manager if the job has been done EXACTLY as described in the bulletin. Is this why the tape is apparently so visible?
It's really not that hard to figure out...
