    Historic VB VC turbo

    Hi all,

Looking for any information about the existence of any VB or VC Commodore turbos. (factory) A little bit of digging reveal they may have been a prototype. CDT did do a version with bonnet inlets and flares, but I am researching if anyone has information on any factory prototypes.

I did find an ebay ad for one long since sold.

    Cheers...

a 4 cyl version was thrown on the table for discussion but never went any further

I remember the VH CDT Turbo's, a guy I worked with had a silver one back around 1983
it had a (2,850 cc) 173 cubic inch blue motor from memory.

    That thing was slow as!

The name Normalair-Garrett rings a bell for some reason. I think they were responsible for the kits.

Yep again from memory the Strata Kits, as I said earlier Ritter had something to do with the development of them.

I think the Strata 1 kits had a single CD Stromberg Carb and Strata 2's had duals.

    Re: Historic VB VC turbo

Poor old Starfires were a much maligned engie, they were really only a 173 red motor with two cylinders lopped off. I had a Toyota Corona in the early nineties that came with one and other than the usual Holden red motor fibre timing gear problem and it was a bit light on for power, it was actually a pretty good engine. I remember as a kid laughing when they introduced the four cylinder Commodore though, you could throw your hat faster than one of them.

    Best wishes,
    Jason.

    Yes.

There is a debate going on another forum about one that was being evaluated by the Highway Patrol and rumour has it, it was a demon. Very fast. It then blew up and was never seen or heard of again. It was so rare even other HWP officers doubt it existed but there is photo evidence...I will try and get the photo

sounds like it may have been an idea, as they were going to cut the v8 and ford had brought out a tubo'd 6 in answer to no v8

    Re: Historic VB VC turbo

Ford apparently had 6 mule falcon s turbo 5 speed for trial.
The AIT kit was the dealer option turbo kit on sale but not officially ford. I have one of the ait turbo 5 speeds from Adelaide dealer optioned in 1983.
Made 190kw and 266 kw blueprinted version.
    Nice rig too

    Historic VB VC turbo

There's a guy on FB selling a factory turbocharged 4 cylinder VH Commodore. The engine bay is a little too messy for my liking though

.. its NOT Factory that turbo setup
a 141 pack on a VH SL (8VK69) is the std 4 cyl engine (NA with carb) with the 5 speed (BW) trans

the only thing that seems legit about that build plate.... is the paint code (for Dulux paint line - Alabaster white)

Hahaha, thanks Smitty...the guy on FB insists it's a factory turbo...maybe you need to go on FB to correct him.
