If you can rotate the comp 90deg clockwise would be better & less oil issues, your bracket will allow that as the 508 mount points should be symmetrical too.
Partly, though with refrigerant & oil you can have a condition of liquid migration where the refrigerant will shift the oil & when the comp starts, starvation of oil will eventually kill it. On the same token too much oil can cause a myriad of other problems too. The latter LS comps are are a different animal to those.
So lines Vertical Up or Down?
That same comp was used on the early commodores & generally vertically up would be the best. If that is a problem for hose fittings 90deg off sets are available.
